Wilson Launch Four New Strings for 2011

Wilson are about to introduce four unique new string offerings for 2011:

For players with arm discomfort (like tennis elbow), new Shock Shield string has a gel filled core which helps reduce shock and vibration. The construction eases tension for comfort and control. The string works in combination with the new Shock Shield Hybrid grip, as well as Shock Shield vibration dampener, made with IsoZorb Gel for maximum comfort.

For those looking for a durable synthetic gut, Red Alert is Wilson’s newest offering. With a slightly textured surface, Red Alert provides increased bite and the high molecular weight nylon coating creates durability more than 2 times the comparable synthetic gut string. The company says that the triangular shaped monofilament wraps create a crisp feel on every shot.

The newest member of the NXT family, NXT Control combines polyester and nylon fiber bundles with polyurethane. The polyester fibers offer control while the nylon fiber provides power.  Polyurethane bonds the fibers together and offers the shock absorption and comfort that NXT strings are known for.

The new SGX 16 is composed of a high energy core surrounded by bi-directional X-bands for a soft and comfortable feel. Available in a variety of colors (lime pictured here), the traditional synthetic gut suits all playing styles and abilities.

Roger Federer is on all the packaging, but he doesnt use the string himself. Federer uses Wilson Champion’s Choice (a hybrid 16 g. 1/2 set Wilson Natural Gut and 1/2 set Luxilon ALU Power Rough that runs around $29 bucks a set– pricey for string breakers on a budget).

Prices coming soon on the Wilson newbies. Learn more at Wilson or find the string soon at Tennis-Warehouse.

Dunlop Launch Their New Website: Back in Business!

Dunlop has just launched their updated website and it looks a lot better than previous versions. The new Dunlop site showcases their team and all the rackets, accessories, baggage that Dunlop has for tennis.

Im a really big fan of the full browser experience and its great to see that Dunlop has adopted social media with the inclusion of their Twitter, Facebook and YouTube profiles. Im also loving the new player profile, but they are going to have to change the design again when they add more players to their roster.

Its great to see Dunlop back and taking tennis more seriously. Maybe not they can drop me an email and sponsor our site!

Best Tennis Specific Sunglasses That Are Actually Affordable

Ive been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to test out the latest Sport specific sunglasses to hit the market. Tifosi is an eye wear company specialising in Golf and Tennis sunglasses. Tefosi sent over two sunglasses for me to test out, their Envy and Tyrant products.

Envy – Product page

The Envy sunglasses come with GT Fototec lens, which utilizes variable tint technology (in other words glare is always low no matter what angle). The Envy only weighs 21 grams and provides great maneuverability. The lenses on the Envy are interchangeable and have anti-fog technology. The Envy are very affordable retailing at only $59.99 USD. The only downside is that the glasses don’t seem to completely surround your eye line, thus allowing sunlight in under and around the side of the glasses. Overall, the Envy seems to be very well made and really worth the price tag. I would highly recommend giving these glasses a go!

Tyrant – Product page

The Tyrant is an excellent model focused at tennis players specifically. The Tyrant has an open frame design that makes for an obstruction free view, however the frame itself does seem a little too flexible and flimsy. The Tyrant is a little heavier than the Envy and also has a much better surface area, not allowing sun to sneak in around the glasses. Price is $59.99 USD. If your a tennis player and looking for an affordable pair of glasses to play in, then the Tyrant is for you.

Roger Federer’s Outfit for Wimbledon 2010

It seems like everyone wants to know what Roger Federer is going to be wearing at Wimbledon this year. Ok, that is probably not true, but here is his out anyways.

It has been reported that Chinese clothing company Peak has signed a five year sponsorship deal with the WTA Tour.

It is noted that the company is worth $6 billion and quotes their CEO as saying they’d like to “catch and surpass” the sale numbers of Nike.

It will be very interesting to see what Peak bring to the WTA Tour and the rest of the world in general.

Enhanced Performance

Streaking ahead

Serena Williams has certainly staked her claim at the top of the women’s’ game after reclaiming her No1 ranking from Dinara Safina after the 2009 US Open. The latter part of the season usually sees players drop their intensity and look forward to the prospect of a holiday. The Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha was more an exhibition of the consequences’ of over playing than a showcase of the best in women’s tennis.

Despite this, Serena Williams looked the freshest of the crop and came through some tough conditions with strapping on her thigh to win the singles. Elena Dementieva said after her 2-6 4-6 defeat, “She’s too good for me” Serena has accelerated her pace at the top of the women’s’ game, it’s reported, with the aid of Power Plate.

“On tour, playing back-to-back matches is tough on your body. Being ready the next day is the difference between winning or losing. If I can accelerate the recovery and healing process, I have a definite advantage. With my Power Plate®, I have that advantage,” Williams says.

Talk of Williams prowess at the Australian Open was accompanied by assurances that she will be around for a few years to come and I wonder if we will see her accelerate away from the rest of the field, or will they match the pace and keep up with her?

The Best Tennis Stores Online

These days there are so many online tennis stores, but which ones are actually worth using? I thought I would put together a great list of the best online tennis stores.

Tennis Warehouse – Tennis Warehouse is the official partner of ATP and WTA tours. Tennis Warehouse has to be one of the most professional tennis stores online with a huge variety of brands and equipment available.

Midwest Sports – Midwest Sports is a USA based online store that has really been growing over the last 6 months. Midwest has the majority of the leading brands as well as some of the newest on the market like Boris Beckers tennis range. The site is very simple to use and is completely verified.

PWP – PWP claims to be Europe’s number one racket specialist. The site itself has a great design and is very simple to use. Unlike the previous two stores PWP doesn’t just do tennis, they also do table tennis, racketball and more. PWP is based in the UK and they also have five actual stores based in the UK.

Tennis Plaza – Tennis Plaza is another USA based store that is completely verified and as well as accepting credit cards they also accept payments via paypal. Tennis Plaza is the official racket retailer of the Sony Ericsson WTA tour, as well as having a partnership with USTA Florida. In terms of the site itself they have a great range and offer some amazing discounts.
