Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez Caught Cheating in Her Match Against Serena Williams
Facing break point in the fifth game of the first set, Serena Williams hit a ball towards Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez at the net. TV replays indicate the ball hit the Spaniard on the arm and bounced back (see video). The umpire, thought that Martinez Sanchez had returned the shot with her racquet, awarded her the point and the game, and Martinez Sanchez went on to win the set.

Martinez Sanchez denies it even after all video replays confirm the ball bouncing off her right forearm. She has no integrity. She’ll go nowhere but down, way down. This sort of thing has happened before, with Justine Henin’s “hand” incident in her semifinal match against Serena also at the French Open in 2003, remember? A segment on the tennis channel should be put up with the title “Dishonest Professional Tennis Players Caught on Cam” starring Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Justine Henin. That ought to give them extreme embarrassment.
@Viveka I cant agree more. I think this is just foolish, because dont they realise that the world is going to see this and write about it, then from here on out this will always be remembered. Sportmanship isnt what it used to be! Maybe there is too much money involved these days to have sportsmanship.
I believe that something should be done by the WTA to rectify the apparent disparity between the female tennis players. The fact that this has happened to Serena Williams twice shows how good a professional she is and an example to her peers. She exudes honesty and integrity and must be congratulated for this fantastic attitude. As for her Martinez Sanchez her attitude is despicable she should be banned from the sport for at least a year and stripped of any purse fees. It is disgraceful that even after a video replay she still says that she never touched the ball when the whole world could see that the ball definitely hit her arm. She should be made an example of for the whole tennis players to see that cheating does not pay.
Anyway Serena does not need to stoop low like sum just look at her record 11 single Grand Slam Titles and countless Double Titles with her sister Venus that proves that the cream always rises to the top.
im glad this happend to serena williama, maybe its payback for all her previous intimadation tacticts that she uses on court.

I agree with Lee. I find it amusing that tennis is one of the few sports that expects players to make calls on themselves, but what if they disagree with a call? Can they over rule a bad call made against them? lol
The Williams sisters have come a long way from the LONG TIMELY bathroom breaks and the many verbal rants, so I’m not sure how long that can be used against them? But I haven’t forgotten them none the less
