Serena Williams Wins Australian Open 2009 Womens Singles and Doubles Title
What an amazing two weeks for Serena Williams! Today Serena capped off a great tournament with an outstanding victory over Dinara Safina in the Australian Open womens final of 2009, score was 6-0 6-3. Serena Williams demolished Dinara Safina to claim her fourth Australian Open title and become the world No 1.
The nervy Russian double-faulted three times in her opening service game and Williams punished her mistakes as she powered through the first set 6-0.
Safina broke immediately in the second set but struggled on serve and Williams completed the rout 6-3 in just 58 minutes for her 10th Grand Slam title.
As well as the Singles title Serena partnered with her sister Venus to win their eighth Grand Slam doubles title. The sisters claimed their third doubles trophy in Melbourne, by defeating Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Japan’s Ai Sugiyama 6-3 6-3.
