Let’s have a sneak preview on this year’s Davis Cup for those who haven’t seen the draw yet:

World Group 2009 – 1st Round

Argentina vs Netherlands Argentina 06 Mar – 08 Mar

Czech Republic vs France Czech Republic 06 Mar – 08 Mar

United States vs Switzerland United States 06 Mar – 08 Mar

Croatia vs Chile Croatia 06 Mar – 08 Mar

Sweden vs Israel Sweden 06 Mar – 08 Mar

Romania vs Russia Romania 06 Mar – 08 Mar

Germany vs Austria Germany 06 Mar – 08 Mar

Spain vs Serbia Spain 06 Mar – 08 Mar

Two of those encounters will be very interesting to watch: first one is USA vs Switzerland, since Federer and Wawrinka (SUI) will certainly oppose Roddick, Blake and the Bryan brothers.

Second will be the encounter between Spain and Serbia, since Djokovic might be playing Nadal or Verdasco. Djokovic said during the Australian Open when asked about Serbia’s chances against the titleholder:” It’s the second year in a row we get titleholder, so it’s not the best possible draw. We have a good young team with a lot of potential for the future. It’s good we have Troicki as well coming up. It’s really important to have Zimonjic as the No. 1 player of the world in doubles. Doubles is really important in this competition. So we are going there not as a favorites. They’re favorites, of course. If Rafa plays, then we have less chance than if he is not playing. But we will not give up. That’s for sure. We will try to upset.”
