Is Bernard Tomic a Good Role Model for Juniors?

The rock star of mens tennis, Bernard Tomic, has been named as the ambassador of Tennis Australia’s Junior Development Series, now sponsored by Medibank in a new three-year deal.

I know Tomic is the top Australian Male tennis player at the moment, but seriously Tennis Australia.. is he a good role model?

Points:

  1. In a lot of trouble with Police over driving his BMW M3
  2. Was banned from the ITF Tour for a month because he walked off court refusing to play and finish a match against fellow Australian Marinko Matosevic
  3. Parents are Croatian and Dad put a huge amount of pressure on Bernard from the age of 10. Tennis training many hours per day…

Want to Buy Bernard Tomic’s V8 BMW M3? Its For Sale!

Bernard Tomic in not so surprising news has decided to sell his V8 BMW M3.

I wish to move forward from this and use it as part of my learning experience, so I’ve decided to sell my BMW. I’ll put my dream car on hold for a while and in the next few years I’ll look again and hopefully I will be able to find a similar car. I now want to focus on my tennis without any distractions.

Tomic has a court date on February 14 for driving the car in areas not permitted under his license.

Bernard Tomic Faces Three Years in Jail and $20,000 Fine

Bernard Tomic has been in trouble with the police a lot lately. However, it now seems to be getting quite serious. Bernard Tomic faces jail time and a $20,000 fine.

He was charged with evading police after he allegedly refused to stop and later barricaded himself in his parents’ Gold Coast, Queensland, home on Jan. 26.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $20,000 fine but his high-profile criminal lawyer Chris Nyst called the charges “little more than a storm in a tea cup.”

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on February 14 to face the charges

Bernard Tomic Calling His Own Lines Incident

We finally got a video of the Bernard Tomic (I call my own lines!) incident against Alexandr Dolgopolov. Tomic basically stopped when he called his own lines and called the ball out and the suddently claimed the point when the official didnt think he stopped. What do you think?

p.s. It was very hard to find the footage, so hopefully it stays on YouTube!

Bernard Tomic isnt the best looking guy in the world, but he has managed to pick up a very good looking girlfriend. Tomic is dating Gold Coast model Donay Meijer. Meijer is a 21 year old pharmacy student.

Do you think Tomic has done well?

Bernard Tomic Wins a Thriller in Australian Open 2012 First Round over Fernando Verdasco

Bernard Tomic has played an amazing first round match at the Australian Open 2012. Tomic came back from 2 sets to love to defeat (22) Fernando Verdasco in five sets 4-6 6-7 6-4 6-2 7-5. Tomic had a lot of chances in the first two sets, but could capitalise, but then he turned that around converting his opportunities in the final three sets.

It will be very interesting to see if he can keep up this great form he has had in Australia.

John McEnroe States Bernard Tomic Could Win a Major: Now He Has No Chance!

John McEnroe has publicly stated that he thinks Bernard Tomic will have opportunities in his career to win a major.

Bernard has got more upside than any young guy I see out there, McEnroe told reporters in Adelaide on Monday, mirroring comments made by world No.11 Juan Martin del Potro.

He’s going to get stronger – that will help him. He is right there with the young guys as one who can make the breakthrough and win some majors.

Now.. if McEnroe says it .. you know it isnt going to happen!

Novak Djokovic and Bernard Tomic to Train Together for Australian Open

Novak Djokovic has announced that he will be training with Bernard Tomic in January’s lead up to the Australian Open. Djokovic thinks that Tomic has a lot of potential and could even climb to a top 10 spot in the world (one day).

Bernard Tomic Claims Police Harassment Over Dangerous Driving Claim

Bernard Tomic is now claiming police harassment. Tomic was reportedly under investigation for dangerous driving. Now the wannabe tennis superstar is claiming that the police are targeting him specifically. Basically, he says he is being victimised by a ‘jealous’ Gold Coast traffic cop who has pulled him up several times while out and about in his distinctive bright orange BMW M3.

One thing I have learnt is to never get on the bad side of cops!

“He doesn’t like me for some reason … he’s always on my tail,” the teenager said.

“I think it’s really bad. I haven’t done a thing wrong – I just go about my business as a tennis player.”

Bernard Tomic In Trouble With the Law: Dangerous Driving of His BMW M3

Bernard Tomic hasn’t had the greatest week. Tomic drives a BMW M3 at home on the Gold Coast, Australia. The P-Plate license he has doesn’t normally allow someone to drive such a powerful car, but for him they were lift. However, now there have been a lot of complaints against Tomic and the police launched an investigation into ‘dangerous driving’ allegations against Tomic.

The special conditions mean that Tomic is only allowed to drive the luxury sports car  to drive directly to and from tennis training at the Queen St courts in Southport.

Bernard you must be expecting to lose your license.. or at least your privileges to drive your BWM M3.

Dolgopolov Talks About Playing To a Tiny Crowd at Shanghai Masters

Alexandr Dolgopolov recently talked about his win over Bernard Tomic at the Shanghai Masters and how weird it was to play in front of so few people.

“For sure it’s a bit weird,” he said. ”It’s the third round of a Masters Series. You don’t feel that atmosphere a bit, but still you need to make yourself play. It was pretty tough because the court is a bit faster, bounces are different. So it was really tough to stay out there and be motivated and try to play your best tennis.”

Its sad to see that all event apart from Grand Slams are getting such few big crowds. The sport needs to change a great deal and make it a lot more appealing to the general audience to attend.

Mardy Fish Continues His Great For in 2011

Mardy Fish is still going strong towards the end of 2011. Mardy has defeated Bernard Tomic to make the semifinals of the Japan Open. Im really surprised how good Fish has been playing in the second half of 2011. Hopefully he can improve over the summer and be ready for even better results at the Australian Open.

@ A bet is a bet. Burger King on me!

Switzerland and Australian Davis Cup Tie is Level

Australia and Switzerland are level after the first day of the Davis Cup World Group Playoffs 2011.

Bernard Tomic (AUS) def. Stanislas Warinka (SWI) = 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-3

Roger Federer (SWI) def. Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) = 5-7 7-6 6-2 6-3

It will be very interesting to see how the Double progresses. If Australia can take the doubles, then I can see the tie coming down to the Lleyton Hewitt vs Stanislas Wawrinka match.

Bernard Tomic Gets a Tennis Lesson from Marin Cilic

Lots of people in Australia were talking about Bernard Tomic and his possible third round match with Roger Federer. However, Bernard has been knocked out of the US Open 2011 in big fashion! Tomic got hammered today by Marin Cilic 6-1 6-0 6-2.

Marin Cilic is a great player with a big serve and forehand. Tomic really struggled with Cilic’s serve and it didnt help that he made 34 unforced errors in the match compared to 16 of his opponent. However, most importantly Bernard only won 22% of his second serve points and thats just terrible.

Better luck next year Bernard!

Australia Make a Stupid Decision and Choose Grass for Their Davis Cup Tie with Switzerland

For some reason Australia has chosen to play on grass for their upcoming Davis Cup tie with Switzerland in September. This choice seems foolish considering Roger Federer is pretty much unbeatable on grass!

I can only think this is because they are going to play Tomic and Guccione who both have very large serves and their best surface is grass. However, they need to basically win 2 singles and the doubles, because they will lose 2 singles rubbers to Roger Federer.

There has been no official comment from Tennis Australia on why they select grass over the other surfaces.

The Australia-Switzerland winner will advance to the topflight World Group next year.

Roger Federer Turns 30

It is August the 8th and guess what day it is? It’s Roger Federer’s birthday! Yes, the 16 time Grand Slam champion has passed the threshold of becoming 30 years old and he had this to say about his milestone: “Birthdays happen. They’re part of life. I’m happy I’m getting older. I’d rather be 30 than 20, to be honest.”

That seems pretty logical since you are as young as you feel and at 20, he didn’t have as much success as when he reached 30.

Many are questioning whether he will win another Grand Slam and he very well might since there were plenty of Grand Slam champions in the past who had won Grand Slams after reaching 30. For example, Andre Agassi won the Australian Open when he was 32 and then even Francesca Schiavone won her first Grand Slam when she was 30, so there are plenty of chances for him to claim his victory on the big stage in the coming years.

He will be competing at the Rogers Cup Masters Tournament in Montreal this week, and he is in the same half as world number 1 Novak Djokovic as well as some other big guns such as Juan Martin del Potro, Bernanrd Tomic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

I also found a video from Roger, giving his thanks to his fans after turning 30. Happy Birthday Roger and good luck for many years to come.
