Serena Williams has withdrawn from the Brisbane International with an ankle injury. Williams suffered the injury in her second round match with Bojana Jovanovski.
I have been to hospital and it has been confirmed that I have a left ankle sprain that I probably shouldn’t play on. I’m going to take a couple of days off – not too many – and see how I feel. I’m still hopeful of playing the Australian Open.
Im sure Williams will rest up and have a lot of physio leading up to the Australian Open 2012 and hopefully she will be ready.

In very good news.. Bernard Tomic has signed up for his home tournament of the Brisbane International.
“January’s coming and that’s Australian Open and Brisbane International time,” Tomic said. “You want to get here [Brisbane] before and prepare.
“I haven’t won a round yet in Brisbane, in the last three years, and if I can push and play well early in Brisbane… get some confidence before I lead into the Australian Open, I think it will be a really big benefit me for the 2012 Australian Open.
Im very interested to see how Tomic can perform at the US Open next month.
Next year Maria Sharapova will be starting her 2012 campaign at my home tournament of the Brisbane International 2012. It is great to see Maria and other players are heading to the event, which has been growing very nicely over the past few years.
It was about time we had another large tennis tournament in Queensland and Brisbane. I remember when they used to play all the big tournaments at Milton!
