I came across this amazing photo taken at the Family Circle Cup yesterday between Safarova and Wozniack. Its a real shame when you have great players like Wozniack and Safarova playing on an outside court with no one watching!
Can someone explain to me why this top level of tennis is only available to watch for the 5 people there (or 1,000 at the whole tournament) and not available for the millions online?
It seems as though Tournaments and the WTA are still missing out on several revenue streams and are yet to properly adopt new technologies. No wonder that Tennis is still lagging behind other sports in terms of viewership numbers!
World number six, Caroline Wozniacki seems to have found a new talent other than using those incredible legs to defend against other players. With Caroline being extremely famous in Denmark, she has decided to release a charity single, “Oxigent” (Oxygen) to support the Danish and Polish Paralympic teams.
While this was apparently recorded back in 2010, it’s now being released for the same cause! Even though it has autotune written all over it, I’m a big fan of Caroline and love the song. While you have players like Djokovic and Monfils in music videos and Rafa sharing a video with Shakira, here you have a tennis player using their voice, which very often is used to grunt, or to yell, so to hear the Danish number 1 sing is quite a breath of fresh air! Let me know in the comments what you think, wonder what Wozniacki’s boyfriend, Rory Mcllroy thinks of her potential to duet with Rihanna!
Serena Williams seems to have come out with yet another stupid comment. After her loss at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami to Caroline Wozniacki, Serena said the following:
“The good thing is I could’ve played a lot better,” Serena told reporters. “I probably played about 20 percent. You know, it would really suck and if I had to sit here and say I couldn’t do any better. That’s not the case. I just made a tremendous amount of errors. There’s no reason for that. I’m older and I shouldn’t do that. There’s no excuse. I just gotta stop that. It’s silly.”
Serena only played at 20 percent. Is this not just a rude comment towards Wozniacki and her play?
Ana Ivanovic played some great tennis yesterday at the Indian Wells 2012 tournament. Ivanovic won through over defending champion Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-2.
“I was really looking for opportunities, and, you know, trying to come in, as well, whenever I had chance, and trying to step in from both sides and trying to stay calm in my serve and execute the way I was executing in practice,” said Ivanovic in her post match press conference. “I really managed to do that well today.”
Caroline Wozniacki had an amazingly tough match against Sofia Arvidsson at the Indian Wells tournament where she was down a set and 4-5. In the end Wozniacki responded amazingly well and reeled off nine of the last 11 games in rallying for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory.
Martina Navratilova is known for having stupid opinions on pretty much everything, but it seems like she has now overstepped the mark with comments about Caroline Wozniacki.
Wozniacki has commented with the following statement:
“I would never say Martina was number one when there was no-one playing,” Wozniacki said, “or that she was the best when no-one was playing. That would be disrespectful.”
“They always have to make comments, and that’s what they get paid for – to be comments, because they are not playing any more. And they need to stir everything up,” Wozniacki said.
After only two months working for Caroline Wozniacki, coach Ricardo Sanchez has been dropped from her team. It appears as though the split was caused after Caroline’s father Piotr, still looked like he was the sole lead in coaching his daughter.
After losing at the Australian Open, Wozniacki has gone down in the rankings to No. 4 in the world. It is unknown who she will hire as a new coach or if she will hire another coach at all, but she hasn’t been confident on the road to a Slam win ever since claiming that number one spot. Her father Piotr is quoted saying that his daughter just didn’t get a lot of inspiration from Sanchez and he couldn’t handle being the one in the middle of the father-daughter coaching relationship.
Hopefully because of her drop, Caroline will find a new hunger to pursue her goal of becoming a Grand Slam champion. She actually has a good chance at the upcoming Roland Garros in May. Well known for her ability to play defense, on a surface like clay it’s really important to use the maximum amount of your agility to get to every ball, so hopefully she will have a breakthrough there and a strong record coming into Paris.
Martina Navratilova is really good at stating the obvious. She stated that Caroline Wozniacki might lose the number 1 world ranking.. well of course she is going to! It will be interesting to see who is the number 1 female player in the world after the Australian Open 2012.
p.s. Wozniacki really needed to get close to winning a Grand Slam to deserve the number 1 spot, but it never happened for her!
Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka have made their way into the Australian Open 2012 semifinals. Azarenka has a close first set, but then turned up the head to win in three sets, 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 against Agnieszka Radwanska. While Kim Clijsters pushed past Caroline Wozniacki 6-2 7-6.
This now means we will have a new number 1 female player in the world after the Australian Open.
The Australian Open 2012 is the first Grand Slam of the year and it is going to be amazingly exciting. Six players on the womens side have the ability to finish the tournament with the World Number 1 ranking.
Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Sam Stosur and Agnieszka Radwanska could also take the top ranking, but the No. 2-ranked Kvitova is the favorite.
Caroline Wozniacki currently holds the top spot, but with her poor run in Grand Slams I doubt highly that she will be number 1 when the tournament ends.
The USA Today has Caroline Wozniacki blogging directly from the Australian Open 2012. Caroline is the top seed for the Australian Open 2012, but she is by far not the favourite to win the title. It will be interesting to see if she can find some form and overcome her Grand Slam curse.
Caroline Wozniacki will be looking stunning at the Australian Open 2012 in a Tomato Red Stella McCartney dress. I love this promotional photo because it makes her look like a million dollars.
Remember the days when Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport were slamless? Well Im sure they never got as much shit as Jelena Jankovic and Caroline Wozniacki currently get.
