David Nalbandian was fined $8,000 for his outburst on Friday where he threw water at a staff member at the Australian Open. The incident happened in his match against John Isner and frankly I can easily see why he got upset!
Nalbandian commented about his penalty and said, “ridiculous playing this kind of tournament with this kind of umpires.”
Other penalties included:
Julien Benneteau’s $2,500 penalty for verbal abuse is the next highest.
Marcos Baghdatis was fined $1,250 for smashing four rackets on Wednesday.
Overall, I think Baghdatis got the best out of the penalties, it could have been a lot worse! Additionally, it got him a huge amount of press!
David Nalbandian seemed to get ripped off in his Australian Open 2012 match against John Isner. It was 8 all in the fifth set and Nalbandian had a break point which was overruled. Then Nalbandian decided to challenge the call, but the umpire and tournament referee told him that he took too long to challenge the call. This is crazy! What a joke. In the end the ball left a mark on court and it was going to be a second serve for Isner at break point 8 all in the fifth set. In the end Isner won 10-8 in the fifth set, but really it should have been the other way!
This has been by far the best ATP tour end final. Roger Federer and David Nalbandian played a classic match back in 2005. This would be a career turning point especially for Nalbandian, but turning in the wrong direction.
David Nalbandian seems to be getting a lot more active on his Facebook page of late. David is posting on Facebook every couple of days with the latest information from tour, videos, photos and more.
David Nalbandian has really had a tough run in recent times with injury. Nalbandian was previously out for over a year with a hernia and hamstring tear and it now seems as though he is going to be out of action for a lot longer. Nalbandian now has an adductor (groin) injury that bothered him in his Wimbledon match against Roger Federer. Additionally, the haematomia is very visible and associated with his abdominal hernia operation.
I hope this isnt the last we see of David Nalbandian on court!
David Nalbandian is expected to be fit for Wimbledon. David has sets his sights on competing once again at The Championships starting on June 21.
Nalbandian was forced to pull out of Roland Garros this year because of a hamstring injury. Nalbandian’s medical team has asked him to not accept an invitation to play the Queens Club event, just so he will be ready for Wimbledon.
The popular Argentine said, “I am very focused on my recovery, I am training in double shifts to try to play Wimbledon.”
I can confirm that David Nalbandian will not play the French Open and will be undergoing hip surgery which will keep him out of minimum of four months. The 27-year-old Nalbandian’s last match was a 6-2 6-2 loss to Chile’s Paul Capdeville at last week’s Estoril Open in Portugal.
Argentina’s two-time French Open semifinalist David Nalbandian faces a fight to be fit for the event after a hip injury resurfaced in his first-round defeat at the Estoril Open. The 27-year-old was thumped 6-2 6-2 by Chile’s Paul Capdeville , with Nalbandian frustrated after initially hurting his hip little more than a week ago in Barcelona. All he can do now prior to a possible start next week at the new Madrid Masters on clay is undergo more physio. “I’ll do my best to try and play in Paris,” he said.
David Nalbandian may need surgery on his right hip and could miss Argentina’s Davis Cup quarterfinal against the Czech Republic in July. Nalbandian withdrew from the Barcelona Open earlier this week, complaining of hip pain.
His physician in Europe, Angel Cotorro, told the Argentine newspaper Clarin that Nalbandian would receive three or four days of treatment including physical therapy and medication before a decision is made on surgery.
Argentina lost the Davis Cup final last year to Spain and is among the favorites to reach the final again with a team lead by world No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro and the 15th-ranked Nalbandian. Argentina faces the Czech Republic from July 10-12 in Ostrava.
