Bernard Tomic Wins a Thriller in Australian Open 2012 First Round over Fernando Verdasco

Bernard Tomic has played an amazing first round match at the Australian Open 2012. Tomic came back from 2 sets to love to defeat (22) Fernando Verdasco in five sets 4-6 6-7 6-4 6-2 7-5. Tomic had a lot of chances in the first two sets, but could capitalise, but then he turned that around converting his opportunities in the final three sets.

It will be very interesting to see if he can keep up this great form he has had in Australia.

Rafael Nadal Gains Needed Form in Cincinnati Just Before US Open 2011

Rafael Nadal has been able to gain some much needed form with a 6-4 7-5 win over Julien Benneteau in Cincinnati.

“The moments that I spend one week ago in Montreal when I lost the match, serving for the match, always the confidence goes down a little bit after one match like that. So that probably affected me a little bit today with 5-4 and the serve. For the rest I am happy. I have to keep going, and that’s what I will try.”

Nadal will now face fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.

“Last week was bad for me because I felt a lot of pain in my arm, which I had felt since Wimbledon, said Granollers. “I went home and rested for five days without any practice, and I came here on Sunday and started to feel better and better. Now I have won the tournament and so it’s amazing.

“It was a very tough match because he’s an incredible player. He’s won a lot of tournaments and it was very tough for me today. All week I served very well, especially today. I was very solid from the baseline and today I played the first set very aggressively.”

French Open Day 7 Round Up

Mens Singles:

There were some very interesting results today. Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray easily won through into the fourth, although Murray did twist his ankle mid way through the match but was able to close it out. Gilles Simon continued his impressive run with a strong win over Mardy Fish. I tipped Simon to be a very strong contender this year and he is living up to the hype.

Novak Djokovic continued his winning streak with a four set win over Juan Martin Del Potro. Del Potro is heading back from injury so expect better results from him later in the year.

The upset of the day belonged to Ivan Ljubicic who defeated Fernando Verdasco (16) 6-3 7-6 6-4.

Womens Singles:

In the womens side of the draw it was a bit boring today. All the top seeds pushed through, except Kaia Kanepi (16) who lost to Ekaterina Marakova in straight sets 6-4 7-5.

Fernando Verdasco in a New Adidas Commercial

Adidas has created a new advertising campaign which is aim to cheer on Fernando Verdasco at his home tournament the Madrid Masters next week.

Fernando Verdasco Signs with Dunlop

Dunlop has announced Fernando Verdasco as the latest tennis star to join as a brand ambassador. Verdasco has signed an international contract for racquets, strings and accessories, while also agreeing to play a key role endorsing Dunlop’s junior talent identification program – D-Squad.

“Becoming a brand ambassador for Dunlop is a very proud moment for me and I look forward to joining the great players already associated with the brand.,” said Verdasco. ”I am continuing to work hard and with help from Dunlop I hope to be able to make this my most successful year to date.” 2009 was pretty good to the guy. Guess at this level it really doesn’t matter what racquet got him to the top (Yonex). Money talks.

Barry Leach, MD of Dunlop Sport said: “Fernando is a world class addition to Dunlop and exemplifies the quality we look for at the brand,” said Barry Leach, MD of Dunlop. ” He plays an exciting style of tennis and, if he can build on last year’s performances, I would expect him to be a main fixture in the ATP top ten this year.”

Verdasco will immediately commence testing of Dunlop’s new 2011 technology. Stay tuned for his choice. Verdasco wears adidas apparel and footwear on court.

Has Fernando Verdasco Dropped Ana Ivanovic for Caroline Wozniacki?

Fernando Verdasco is enjoying a career-best start to the year, but perhaps even more intriguing than his ascendance to No. 8 in the world is the Spanish heartthrob’s love life. The 25-year-old Verdasco, who counts players Gisela Dulko of Argentina and Ana Ivanovic of Serbia among his exes, had Danish teenager Caroline Wozniacki in his cheering section during a match in Indian Wells last month. And Verdasco apparently returned the favor, showing up to watch Wozniacki’s fourth-round victory over Urszula Radwanska. The duo was photographed together (albeit alongside Urszula’s big sister Agnieszka) at the K-Swiss player party in Indian Wells.
