Roger Federer has pulled out of the Halle tournament due to groin pain. Roger was scheduled to face Lleyton Hewitt in the first round, but the Australia must now be feeling a lot more confident about his chances.
Roger said:
“I am very disappointed as it is one of my favorite tournaments on the ATP World Tour, but my body and especially my groin need a rest after the French Open. After talking with my team this morning, I feel that it is too big a risk to take a chance and aggravate it before Wimbledon.
I send my very best wishes to the tournament organisers and all my fans in Halle, and again I am so sorry I can’t go this year. But I will see you next year.”
Roger Federer has signed a lifetime contract with Gerry Weber Open, the Halle, Germany grass court event. “Lifetime” obviously means the rest of his career.
Roger’s feeling good about the blessed union:
“I am delighted.” Federer said. “It feels a bit like I am getting married. I wanted to plan more long-term. I want to build up friendships and I get on really well with Ralf and Gerhard Weber.”
Im not exactly too sure if Mirka would like to hear you say that signing a contract is like your marriage!
Roger has loved playing at Halle for many years now and has won the title five times already.
Both Tommy Haas and Andy Murray had great weekend the pair each won their respective tournaments.
Tommy Haas, ranked 41 in the world, came into the Gerry Weber Open with a wild card and scored a major upset over Novak Djokovic in the finals on Sunday: 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1. This was the first German singles victory in nine years in Halle, and Haas’s first singles title (and final appearance) since Memphis, 2007.
Andy Murray beat up James Blake in straight sets on his “home” turf of London: 7-5, 6-4. He becomes Great Britain’s first Queen’s Club singles champion in 71 years – since Bunny Austin beat Sin-Khie Kho of China in 1938.
