Serbia won the tie 3-2 with Jankovic sweeping Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-1, 6-4, in the clinching match.

Jelena Jankovic has started to focus her year solely on winning a gold medal at the Olympics.

“I got injured even at the Fed Cup when I tore a muscle,” Jankovic told the Gulf Times. “So it’s hard, but I am really trying my best to come back. I have been consistently in the top 10 for five years and last year was the first time I finished No 14. Now I am No 13, but I would like to come back and be one of those top players and be really successful again. I could make a list of the tournaments I want to win, but first of all I want is an Olympic Games medal. To wear it around my neck, shining, that would be special.”

Robson got a tennis lesson today at the hands of (13) Jelena Jankovic. Jankovic tore Robson’s game apart and frankly made her look like a rookie. Robson obviously is young and will have many more opportunities, but she really needs to work on her physical shape if she wants to compete with the big hitters.

Maria Sharapova has taken the Cincinnati title. Maria Sharapova defeated Jelena Jankovic in the final 4-6 7-6 6-3. The match had 20 double faults and 16 service breaks, so wasnt the best match from either player, but still a very interesting and close final.

This is good preparation for both players leading into the US Open. With Kim Clijsters out of the US Open I will be placing my money on Sharapova for the title.
