Marat Safin has been elected to Russian Parliament. Safin is part of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia Party, which is currently being investigated for electoral fraud!
Pete Sampras supported Marat’s move into politics saying,
“In 20 years Marat will be the President of Russia. Marat is going to go a long way. He is very intelligent and articulate and he’s good with people, and that’s half the battle with being a politician.”
It currently seems like elections in Russia are fraudulent, so it is no surprised that he got elected. I’m wondering if his constituents actually wanted him in!

Adidas Barricade tennis shoes have a long tradition of adorning the feet of the top professional tennis players on the world-class courts of the Australian Open.
For eleven years, Adidas has put top notch design and technology into the progression of better and faster hard-court tennis shoes and the New Adidas Barricade 7 is no exception. All of the technology that made the Barricade 6 a top seller and a favorite hard court tennis shoe among women and men is present in the 7 with an added design innovation that adds flexibility, maneuverability and longer lasting stability.
In 2008, Novak Djokovic won his first Grand Slam title in a pair of the Barricade Fives. This year, Andy Murray (who also helped to develop the 7), Viktor Troicki, Andrea Petkovic and many more are sporting the newest member of the technologically advanced Adidas tennis shoe family.
What makes the Barricade 7 surpass other hard court tennis shoes is the introduction of the new, flexible support claws. This innovative answer to the challenging forefoot flex point not only reduces break-in time, but continues to provide forefoot flex support longer and more reliably than traditional flex point reinforcement methods.
The fact that this shoe is 30 grams lighter than its predecessor sure helps its cause. One reviewer said these new Adidas tennis shoes were so light he could almost forget that he had a pair of the Barricade 7s on.
The Adidas Barricade 7 is not a low profile shoe by any means, the five interlocking layers that make up the heel cushioning and the external TPU chassis make sure of that. But the stability, torsional stiffness and impact protection provided in that area makes for one comfortable ride.
The legacy of this high performance hard court tennis shoe comes surprisingly from the research and success of a state-of-the-art Sprint frame soccer shoe. The outsole “seamless welded upper” provides lightweight comfort, superior breathability, unmatched flexibility and extended durability.
The lateral forefoot outrigger provides additional forefoot support that prevents shifting and toe injury. An internal side wall on the outside of the forefoot creates additional lateral stability to a tennis shoe that is already packed with stabilizers.
The highly durable adiWear all-court, herringbone outsole is complimented by two circular grip points and a forefoot flex groove at the point of the Adidas ‘Claws.’ For reliability in movement, shifting and fast soot work, the new Barricade has covered all the bases.
From the Barricade’s not-so-humble beginnings on the feet of Marat Safin as he won the 2000 U.S. Open to Djokovic to Murray slip your foot into the new Adidas Barricade 7 and slip your foot into a tradition of excellence.

Yes.. Its true. Marat Safin is running for Parliament in Russia.
“I am an intelligent guy and I have a lot to bring and a lot of ideas about things and what to do,” Safin said. “I am very committed to it.”
“I could be the best looking guy in the Duma,” Safin said. “But that’s only because all the other guys are over 60.”

It seems that Marat Safin has been visiting Novak Djokovic in Serbia recently. Do you think Marat will be helping Novak with some coaching tips?
Vera Zvonareva got a little emotional in the Family Circle Cup final in which she lost to Australia Samantha Stosur. We have embedded the video below which shows Vera’s outburst. I must admit it is actually good to see some emotion back in tennis, I think this is really lacking at the moment. Bring back the days of Marat Safin smashing a racquet every match.
Marat Safin has gone out of the French Open yesterday in a marathon match. Marat lost to Josselin Ouanna 7-6 7-6 4-6 3-6 10-8. This is a great upset for Ouanna who has had is best ever grand slam performance in front of his home crowd. Ouanna has now won both of his opening two matches in five sets.
Ouaana who was a great junior player has really struggled to progress and beat the big boys on tour. I had the priverledge to play with Ouanna about fours years ago on the ITF circuit in France and he had a huge amount of promise. Ouanna is one of the young players who the French Tennis Federation has been growing since a young age, other players include Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Mofils.
It is great to see some new faces on tour and actually having some good results, but it is always sad to see Marat Safin head out of another grand slam. Enjoy the trip back home to Russia Marat.

Russian former world number one Marat Safin is looking forward to life after tennis when he retires from the professional tour at the end of the year and says he does not care how people remember him. The 29-year-old twice grand slam champion, who is on a farewell sweep of the events he has graced since he turned professional in 1997, lost in the first round of the Madrid Open on Monday to Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
“They can remember me how they want,” Safin, the U.S. Open champion in 2000 and winner of the Australian Open title in 2005, told a news conference. “I don’t care. I’m not really thinking about it all day.” Safin said he had not eased back on the regime he had followed during his decade at the top of the sport even though it was his final year.
“You wake up in the morning and you get on a bus or in a car at 11 o’clock,” he said. You come back around six. You watch a couple of episodes of something on TV. You read a book. You go for dinner. You look at the internet a little bit. And then you go to sleep. It’s boring I know but it’s the routine you have to do because you can’t do anything else. That’s our job for 10 years. Some great moments, some bad moments. Sometimes we can get out and have some fun but most of the time you have to be focused on tennis. Life is waiting for me after,” he added with a smile.
Former world number one Marat Safin has failed to win back-to-back matches in nine of his last 10 tournaments, often perishing despite being in a winning position. This has lead his sister to have a few quiet words in the press and insist he put his whole heart into playing tennis or quit. Im not really sure it was her place to say anything and Im sure if my little sister mentioned something like this I would tell her to shutup.
The 29-year-old was knocked out of last week’s Rome Masters in the first round by Tommy Robredo after throwing away a 6-2 4-1 lead and Safina suggested her brother should hang up his rackets immediately if he is unable to turn around his form. “He knows he’s going to retire (at the end of) this year, so it’s tough,” Safina told reporters at the Italian Open on Monday. I would say that if you want to retire, either you do it or you play. He doesn’t. So he should make a decision if he wants to play or if he wants to retire. He was supposed to (have) already retired last year and he’s still going. He’s a little bit unpredictable.”
There have been a lot of rumours lately about who is dating who, and I could stop there so here is another one. Move over Ivanovic and Verdasco and Sharapova here is Marat Safin getting some action.
Although Marat is in too much pain to play tennis at the moment (pulling out of the Madrid Masters) he seem to be doing ok with the ladies still off the court. It appears that Marat is now seeing Nastya Osipova and Russian pop singer. Nice result Marat.
With Lleyton Hewitt and Casey Dellacqua already confirmed starters, tournament director Paul McNamee announced the Russian siblings Marat Safin and Dinara Safina would team up for the first time to form the second team in the tournament. McNamee also admitted he is chasing Djokovic to play the tournament, but there will be no Roger Federer or Raphael Nadal in Perth because they have already committed to other tournaments. Im really looking forward to seeing some new faces in the Perth teams event this year, instead of having most of the top players finding a few up and comers has to be on McNamee’s list.
