It seems like the time of year when all of the top players on both tours split with their coaches.
The latest player is Melanie Oudin and she has split with her coach Brian DeVilliers and is now working with Tom Gullikson.
Im a big fan of Tom Gullikson so it will be interesting to see if he can get the best out of Melanie Oudin. Oudin is known for choking in big matches, so it will be tough work for Gullikson.
The other day we were talking about how Melanie Oudin stated that she has been having a lot of bad luck on tour this year. However, it seems as though its not about the bad luck and more about the bad play. Oudin was the top seed at the current Lexington Challenger event, but has lost in the first round to Chanel Simmonds 7-6 2-6 6-3.
“I’m not very happy, but I don’t dwell on losses,” she said. “Next tournament I go into, I’ll be ready. This is a smaller tournament, and of course I wanted to win it. But what really matters are the Grand Slams.”
Melanie Oudin reached the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2009, but hasnt performed well since. Recently Melanie jumped into a conference call and stated she hadn’t had any luck lately.
“I’ve hadn’t luck on my side lately” (terrible English!). “I’ve tried to stay positive, keep working hard I have a lot to learn, and hopefully, I still have a long career ahead of me. My goals right now is just to start playing better again. Start to get some more matches under my belt.”
Melanie you need to just keep working and the wins will come. It has nothing at all to do with luck! Whoever works the hardest gets the victories eventually.
