With both sisters ranking and stamina dropping, how long will they attempt to keep playing the WTA Tour?

Venus, the elder of the two sisters fell ill during 2011 and missed the majority of the season, causing her ranking to drop to 103rd in the world. Making her come back at Miami this year, Venus did well to beat reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, but Venus was shaky at best and looked exhausted after playing the first set of her matches. In tennis years Venus is old, an incredible player in her time but her time is up, I hope she competes in the Olympics and then retires from tennis.

Serena Williams is simply an embarrassment to tennis, over the last several years she has put in zero effort and expected to turn up and be the best player at every tournament she plays! Serena hasnt dealt with being overtaken very well, arguments with umpires, lack of respect for her fellow players and unrealistic boasting like “I probably played 20%” We have seen players like Azarenka, Clijsters and Stosur overtake Williams and she cannot take it. Hopefully promising young American talents like McHale and King can start a new generation of women’s tennis in America, a generation that shouldnt include Serena Williams.

While the sisters are able to make finals and semi finals at the moment, what happens when they are falling at quarter finals? If the Williams sisters are still playing professional tennis in 2013, god help American Tennis!

Sergei Bubka Jr. has lived his entire existence being called “the great pole vaulter’s son.” However, it seems that he is now being removed from his fathers shadow.

Sergei Jr., No. 182 in the ATP World Tour rankings, played a strong opening main-draw match at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park, defeating 79th-ranked Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-4, 6-4, on a low-profile side court.

Rafael Nadal seems to be pushing for a change in the ATP ranking system. At the moment the ATP rankings take in 1 year of results, but Nadal wants to see 2 years used instead (which is used in Golf). Nadal has said the change would lengthen careers by allowing big names to play less often and better protecting injured players. This all makes sense, but there are a lot of downsides. If players want to play less and earn as much money, the only person to lose out is the fans. Fans will only have limited opportunities to see their favourite players play, which I think will drive fans away from tennis and towards more active top player sports (such as Football).

Ohh.. and did I mention that Rafael Nadal would be the main player to benifit from the change. He would becoming world number 1 again!

p.s. Is it about time someone else started a new tour?

p.s. Wozniacki really needed to get close to winning a Grand Slam to deserve the number 1 spot, but it never happened for her!

These are the results of both players from last year. Thus, if Andy has a strong run at the end of the year he will probably take over the number 3 spot in the world.
This is a very short appointment for Kardon who has previously coached 18 time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova.

Ivanovic has seen a slide in her ranking ever since she reached the number one spot for a short time last year. Currently Ivanovic is ranked 13th in the world after she lost a whole load of points from her French Open performance.

While searching for a new coach, she will use temporary coaches for Eastbourne and Wimbledon later this month.
