Samantha Stosur has had a great start to the WTA Tour Championships. This is the first time Stosur defeated Sharapova in the last 10 meetings. Stosur won 6-1 7-5.
“Obviously it’s a big feat for me. You never want to lose to someone 10 times in a row,” Stosur beamed said. “I was feeling pretty focused, relaxed and ready to go. I did a few things differently and thankfully it paid off.”
This was also Maria Sharapova’s first tournament in a month since her ankle injury.

Serena Williams has been fined $2,000 by the US Open after berating the chair umpire during the final.
Serena called out come on before Samantha Stosur even tried to hit the ball. Of course she should have got a code violation. Chair umpire 1 – Serena Williams 0
More importantly Serena is going to lose a huge amount of fans after the US Open.
A sampling of what Williams said, prompting the umpire to call the code violation:
— “You’re out of control.”
— “You’re a hater, and you’re just unattractive inside.”
— “Really, don’t even look at me.”
— “Your a loser.”
Williams, who never complains, also refused to shake that unattractive hater Asderaki’s hand at the end of the match, because she’s such a great sport who never complains. Never!
Samantha Stosur has become the first Australian lady to win a Grand Slam since Evonne Goolagong in 1980! Congrats Sam! Sam won 6-2 6-3.
Samantha had an amazing game plan against Serena and executed it perfectly. At time Serena looked like she just wasnt able to do anything right and Stosur kept hitting winner after winner.
I was so glad to see that Serena got a point penalty for yelling come-on, when the ball was still on her side of the court. I wonder if this is the start of something to come on the ladies tour with grunting?
Anyways, Stosur played an amazing match and it was great to see her do so well!

I lost track of the score, I didn’t know at one point if I should be serving or receiving. With all the challenges it was super-exciting. The crowd was into it. I couldn’t hear myself think.
I now have a feeling that Stosur is going to win the title!
