Mashona Washington, who advanced to the doubles Quarterfinals in Indian Wells, was arrested earlier this week on the charge of felony vandalism. The arrest occurred Monday at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells on a charge relating to damages estimated at at least $5,000. Washington was detained at the Riverside County Jail in Indio but was released later that same day. She then went on to lose her doubles Quarterfinal with partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands to the Spanish pair of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-1 6-2.

Washington is the younger sister of accomplished ATP player Malivai Washington. She has been ranked at high as #50 in the world and, in 2005, reached the third round of Wimbledon where she fell to Elena Dementieva. Struggling with injuries, her singles results have waned in recent years, but she is still finding doubles success as she did this week at Indian Wells. In 2008 she and Angela Haynes made the finals in Memphis before falling to champions Lindsay Davenport and Lisa Raymond.

No other details about the arrest are currently available.
